Lineco Member Assistance Program (MAP)

What is the Lineco MAP?

The Lineco Member Assistance Program (MAP) is administered by ValueOptions, a professional mental health care counseling and management organization. ValueOptions has thousands of experienced, professional counselors to help you with any kind of personal problem.

Why You Should Use the MAP

How it Works

The first step is to call the MAP's toll-free telephone help line—1-(800)-332-2191. A MAP Care Manager will take your call, discuss the situation, and make a professional assessment. The Care Manager can refer you to helpful resources in your community or, if you need professional counseling services, to a local counselor in the MAP's vast network of mental health professionals.

MAP counselors include a wide variety of mental health practitioners. The MAP Care Manager will select the type of specialist best suited to your particular circumstance. Depending on the Care Manager's telephone assessment, you may receive one of the following types of referrals:

If you need additional office visits, or if your treatment plan consists of hospitalization, day care, residential treatment, or intensive outpatient treatment, your care will be considered for payment under the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Benefit. The MAP Care Manager will explain how to access the services or care you need.

Free Counseling Services

Depending on the type of difficulty you are having, the MAP may recommend that you receive counseling services from a professional MAP counselor. You can receive MAP counseling services at no cost to you for up to 6 face-to-face office visits per problem. There are no deductibles, co-payments or claim forms involved. You must call the MAP in order to get your 6 free visits. The call must be made each time you or a dependent would like to consult with a MAP counselor. Your call, your meeting and any discussions you have will be kept completely confidential.

Legal and Financial Assistance

The MAP provides access to a national network of independent attorneys who have experience in a variety of legal areas. You can receive legal advice about bankruptcy, estate planning, taxes, family law, consumer and financial matters, and certain criminal offenses, including driving under the influence (DUI/DWI).

If legal representation is needed, the MAP will provide a referral to a local MAP-affiliated attorney who provides an initial half-hour face-to-face consultation at no charge. The MAP-affiliated attorney will provide additional legal services at a 25% reduction of his usual fees. You are responsible for any fees after the initial half-hour consultation.

For financial concerns, the MAP also provides telephone information and advisory services provided by a team of experts who include Certified Financial Planners, Certified Public Accountants and insurance specialists.

While MAP-affiliated attorneys and financial experts can assist you with many issues, certain restrictions apply. For example, you can NOT receive advice about: (a) employee-employer disputes; (b) business law; (c) how another attorney is handling a situation; (d) someone elses legal problem; or (e) specific investments.

To access legal or financial assistance, simply call your MAP at 1-(800)-332-2191 and tell the MAP counselor you want to be transferred to a legal or a financial consultant, depending on your concern

Questions and Answers About the MAP

Q: Who can use the Lineco MAP?
A: You and your covered dependents can use the MAP if you are eligible for Lineco benefits.

Q: How many times can I call the MAP?
A: There is no limit to the number of times you can call the MAP for advice.

Q: Do I have to use MAP counselors?
A: You are not required to use the MAP's counselors or referral services and you can choose your own counselor. If you do choose your own provider, you won't be able to receive your 6 free visits. However, you may still be able to receive Plan benefits IF you have your treatment precertified by ValueOptions, and IF your treatment is covered under the provisions of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Benefit.

Note - Only treatment of substance abuse and mental or nervous disorders is covered under the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Benefit. Lineco provides benefits for other types of problems ONLY through the MAP.)

Q: What if I need more than 6 office visits with a MAP counselor?
A: Most concerns can be adequately dealt with in 6 or fewer visits. However, if you need more than 6 visits for treatment of a mental or nervous disorder or substance abuse, the additional care will be considered for payment under the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Benefit (see the Note above). Any visits after your 6 free MAP visits must be precertified by ValueOptions. If you aren't being treated for substance abuse or a mental/nervous disorder but would like to see the MAP counselor for additional visits, you can make arrangements with the counselor to do so. Note that you will have the pay for the additional visits yourself if the visits are not for a covered condition.

Q: What if there are no MAP counselors where I live?
A: If there are no MAP counselors in your geographic area who can assist you, the MAP will refer you to a counselor who is not affiliated with the MAP. In such case, your first 6 office visits will be treated the same as if your visits were with a MAP counselor. Any other covered care you receive for that counselor will be paid under the Out-of-Network Schedule of Benefits.

Q: Is precertification required if the MAP refers me to an in-network provider for treatment?
A: Yes. Precertification is required for all treatment of substance abuse and mental or nervous disorders.

Q: Does precertification guarantee coverage?
A: No. Precertification is not a guarantee that the Plan will pay benefits for the treatment. The coverage available to you is also subject to the Plan's eligibility requirements and all applicable Plan limitations and provisions.

Q: Where do I send my claims?
A: Claims for your free short-term MAP counseling visits should be filed by your MAP counselor to: ValueOptions, P.O. Box 1347, Latham, NY 12110. Claims for treatment of substance abuse and mental or nervous disorders should be mailed to Lineco in the usual manner. (See the inside front cover for Lineco's address and telephone number.)
